Park Hyatt Kyoto

Locally inspired luxury in Higashiyama
VERIFIED LUXURY

Park Hyatt Kyoto blends so seamlessly into its historic Higashiyama surroundings that you might just walk right by it — and that’s exactly how this luxury hotel likes it. Designed in partnership with some of Kyoto’s most notable construction dynasties, the Park Hyatt mirrors the ancient architecture of the dense Higashiyama with black-tiled roofs, sleek lines and natural building materials.

But it goes beyond looks at this luxury stay. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better home base in the city, with many of the area’s top attractions within walking distance of your front door. Airy rooms provide a blend of modern comforts and historic charm, while five dining outlets — including, Kyoyamato, one of the oldest and most revered restaurants in the city — ensure you never go hungry. Should you want to travel further afield, the helpful concierge can easily arrange transport.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Park Hyatt Kyoto’s style seamlessly blends classic Japanese architecture with the luxury hotel brand’s signature modern minimalist aesthetic. The result is a sleek, contemporary stay with an authentic, oasis-like feel.
  • Thanks to its position along the Higashiyama hillside, Park Hyatt Kyoto offers some of the best room views in the city. All accommodations offer vistas over the neighborhood's historic black-tiled roofs, but the best sights include framed views of the famed Yasaka Pagoda through large picture windows.
  • Unusual for a city-center hotel, Park Hyatt Kyoto’s rooms are spacious — starting at a generous 484 square feet — and feature luxe marble bathrooms with deep soaking tubs. Fragrant tamo wood and Zen garden views complete the urban oasis aesthetic.
  • Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a cuppa in the historic Soyotei teahouse. Dating back to the Edo Era, the structure includes a private room where samurai used to secretly meet during the final days of the shogunate.
  • While the intimate 70-room Kyoto hotel doesn’t have a pool, it does offer a charming Japanese bathhouse. The soothing space includes a sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunge pools and showers that make for a nice escape from the bustling streets just outside your front door.

The Restaurants

  • So named for its jaw-dropping view of the pagoda and historic cityscape, signature dining room Yasaka specializes in classic Japanese teppanyaki with an emphasis on fresh, Kyoto-sourced ingredients (see: perfectly seared wagyu beef served with seasonal produce like fresh green asparagus and wasabi).
  • Connected to the luxury hotel via a garden pathway, Kyoyamato has served seasonally inspired kaiseki (intricate, multicourse dishes) meals since 1877. Six generations of the same family have kept a watchful eye over the kitchen, ensuring a top-quality feast every time you visit.
  • With its casual vibe and street-side location, Kyoto Bistro is a relaxing spot for a bite any time of day. Enjoy Japanese and international plates for breakfast with a dash of people-watching or stop by for lunch or dinner and be served on handmade earthenware crafted by local pottery master Asahiyaki.
  • Catch sunset views of Yasaka Pagoda with a cocktail in hand at Kohaku. Adjacent to Yasaka, the venue partners with Kyoto-based spirit makers to curate a highly specialized selection of whisky, sakes and gins that are prominently featured in a unique menu of sips.
