The Dining Room at Georgian Rooms

A reimagined Sea Island classic
VERIFIED LUXURY

Great things are worth waiting for, and the reimagined Dining Room at Georgian Rooms at Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star The Cloister proves as much by returning in tip-top form after a multi-year closure to delight a whole new generation of Sea Island guests.

A longtime favorite for stellar seasonal cuisine served beneath twinkling crystal chandeliers, the elegant Georgian Room has returned with three distinct dining venues designed to delight all five senses. A cozy Library for cocktails and an intimate Lounge serving up Japanese classics are among the highlights, but the centerpiece of this transformation is The Dining Room.

The formerly stark-white space has emerged as an upscale, turn-of-the-20th-century-inspired American grill, complete with leather banquets, brass fixtures and deep forest-green walls that evoke the feel of a cozy hunting lodge. But even with all of the changes, one thing that remains the same is the team’s commitment to quality ingredients and service.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The revamp of The Dining Room at Georgian Rooms has imbued the space with more personality and created a cozier ambiance. Warm woods and jewel tones have replaced the elegant white interiors, though white tablecloths remain to remind you of the venue’s upscale roots.
  • For a slightly different dining experience, request a table in the glass-enclosed Orangery. The light-filled space offers a slightly more casual vibe while you dine on the same sumptuous menu as the main dining room.
  • The Sea Island restaurant’s menu focuses on vintage spirits and steakhouse-style classics, including raw bar offerings, caviar service, a short list of prime cuts and indulgent sauces.
  • Starters and mains feature a farm-to-table ethos with an international twist. Think seared foie gras served over Vidalia onion pain perdu or fork-tender beef short ribs glazed with an heirloom cherry tomato barbecue sauce.
  • Reservations are required to dine at The Dining Room at Georgian Room, but the Lounge is a bit more informal. Feel free to wander in, grab a seat on an inviting blue banquet and enjoy a selection of sushi and sashimi that can be washed down with a prime bottle of sake.

The Drinks

  • In keeping with its theming, The Dining Room at Georgian Rooms serves a bar menu anchored by vintage classics with a twist. A staple here that’s done with a local spin is the Coconut Aged Old Fashioned made with Sea Island WhistlePig Piggyback Rye whiskey.
  • Those who prefer not to imbibe can still try an artisanal sip, thanks to some zero-proof cocktails and non-alcoholic pours from the popular alcohol-free Athletic Brewing.
  • While there are plenty of options to satisfy an oenophile, the highlight is the whiskey list. More than 50 varieties of the brown spirit run the gamut from traditional bourbons to a bottle of The Macallan Fine & Rare 1950.
  • Those dining in the Lounge are spoiled for choice with 15 different sakes on offer as well as Japanese whisky, shochu and Asian-influenced drinks like the yuzu gimlet or lychee martini.
