JORY at The Allison Inn

A toast to seasonal flavors in Oregon Wine Country
VERIFIED LUXURY
Overlooking hazelnut orchards and the distant rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, JORY at The Allison Inn (named for the volcanic soil found in the region) occupies a unique space in Oregon wine country. The contemporary Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant in The Allison Inn & Spa is soaked with natural light from a wall of windows that frame towering groves of conifers, distant hazelnut orchards and a hillside of tangled pinot noir grape vines.

The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it may be best known for its extensive wine list of 850 labels, including, of course, more than one hundred types of Oregon pinot noir (talk about sampling the local bounty).

The 100-seat eatery’s knowledgeable and skilled staff can recommend food and wine pairings for any level of connoisseur — it’s an accessible way to learn about the region’s terrior.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • We found the service at JORY at The Allison Inn, the 100-seat signature restaurant in The Allison Inn & Spa, to be smooth. The courses were delivered at an even pace and empty plates were quickly whisked away. Overall, the level of attention was keen but not cloying.
  • To deliver the freshest of dishes every night, the kitchen works with local growers from nearby hazelnut farms, olive groves, orchards and even a handful of area cheese makers. Chefs also harvest from a half-acre plot daily to garnish plates with just-plucked edibles.
  • A soft wood interior is accented by magenta hues and leaf-print cushions. Our favorite design accent in the restaurant is a parade of autographed pinot noir magnums between the dining area and open kitchen.
Things to Know
  • The restaurant offers a laid-back and relaxing environment for enjoying the fruits of the region. On sunny days, guests flock to the attached terrace to soak up the views.
  • If you grab a counter seat in front of the open kitchen (up to 10 guests), you are in for a night of culinary theater. You’ll have a front-row seat to the art of filleting and grilling, smoking and sautéing, chopping, dicing and slicing.
  • The dress code at JORY at The Allison Inn in Oregon is casual. While the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant serves an elevated menu and has a deep wine list, the dress code is only as formal as you want it to be.
The Food
  • The gnocchi, a signature item on the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant's menu, are stuffed with Yukon Gold potato and topped with Dungeness crab, caramelized fennel, sweet carrots, pernod and crème fraîche.
  • The delightful cedar plank steelhead comes with potato confit, black trumpet, celery, pomegranate, hazelnuts and saba-brown butter.
  • If the pan-seared Muscovy duck, which is plated with sweet potato gratin, escarole, port-glazed cranberries and a rich duck egg hollandaise, is on the menu, it would be a crime not to order it.
  • No ordinary strip loin, the wood-fired Wagyu is accompanied by foraged mushrooms, sweet onions and a bordelaise reduction. But your attention will be lured away by the decadent pierogi, which are filled with triple cream and truffles.
The Drinks
  • While the 800-label, leather-bound wine list will excite any oenophile, the restaurant hasn’t forgotten about those who aren’t particularly fond of vino. The signature cocktails and craft beer list will more than quench your thirst for a taste of the Northwest.
  • Meet the winemakers — from teeny-tiny boutique producers to the pinot pioneers — in the JORY Bar every Thursday, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and enjoy live jazz performances on Friday and Saturday evenings.
