Sharm el-Sheikh

Over the last few decades the once sleepy Egyptian port town of Sharm el-Sheikh has been transformed into one of the most popular seaside spots in the Middle East. Simply called “Sharm” by locals, Sharm el-Sheikh is an increasingly common stop for honeymooners and travelers on longer trips along the Nile River. Diving enthusiasts have long flocked here as a base for exploring the Red Sea’s incredible coral reefs and colorful marine life, while wind surfers from around the world come to sail the windy coastline. Water sports and fun in the sun certainly remain the biggest draws, but a spate of luxury hotels, the late-night clubbing scene and influx of upscale international restaurants are also helping make Sharm el-Sheikh one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the country.
