FORTH Atlanta

A stylish beauty by Atlanta’s Beltline
VERIFIED LUXURY
While it can be debated what inspired FORTH Atlanta’s name — was it the “Go forth into the busy world and love it” quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson or simply a tip of the hat to the new hotel’s historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood in Atlanta? — one thing is clear — this exciting project adds an air of sophistication to the area. An architectural vision from the same team that transformed a former Sears distribution center into the popular Ponce City Market just up the street, FORTH confidently sits where a utility company’s former operating headquarters once stood.

The 196-unit structure, which reportedly has the world’s only cement cast exoskeleton, is a marvel from the outside and a display of mid-century modern magnificence once you step inside. Leather couches and cushioned loungers welcome you in the lobby. Marble chessboards and model ships sit in The Club. The spaces feel like somewhere Jay Gatsby and Lenny Kravitz might have shared stories over vintage cognac.

There’s also a cute street-level café that has an entry for hotel guests and another for people on the nearby Beltline trail who are simply following the smell of fresh pistachio croissants.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Mixing textures and prints often has tragic results. But at this Atlanta hotel, different tones and tapestries somehow work cohesively. The lobby has three different types of chairs. The Club has white, brown and gold couches. Il Premio steakhouse has eye-catching patterns on its floors and furnishings. Yet, it all comes together in one warm, welcoming package.
  • The artwork is another standout feature. Whether it’s bold mountainscapes or whimsical portraits from Butch Anthony, most rooms at FORTH have something hanging in them that’s sure to strike a conversation.
  • Il Premio hasn’t been around the Atlanta culinary scene, yet it’s already causing a buzz. Most of the positive chatter is because of the modern Italian steakhouse’s kitchen, where wagyu steaks and ragu Bolognese tagliolini are served. There’s noise coming from the elegant bar, too, but that’s mostly from jovial conversations over glasses of sauvignon blanc.
  • Elektra is a bright, Mediterranean-flavored spot for breakfast, dinner, weekend brunch and (coming soon) lunch. Juicy kebabs and the whole branzino are can’t-miss choices in the evening whereas the olive oil pancakes, lamb sausage and smashed fingerling potatoes are undisputed morning hits.
  • Just outside of Elektra’s doors is a pool oasis so tranquil you’ll forget that downtown Atlanta is just minutes away. Even if you don’t want to take a dip, there are rows of poolside loungers that you can almost hear whispering your name for a nap.

Things to Know

  • The Club is where hotel guests (and paying members) come for privacy and to participate in themed outings like game night and vinyl night. The eclectic space has beamed ceilings, a working fireplace, TVs, a full bar and more than enough fun-looking seating for conversing in your own corner.
  • The appropriately named Moonlight is the rooftop lounge where you’ll find ’70s-inspired furniture (like a zebra-printed couch), tremendous city views and a menu filled with snacks, sweets and a slew of colorful cocktails.
  • If “style” is the luxury hotel’s favorite word, “wellness” may be its second. The property has a four-room spa for anyone longing to relax and a sun-doused, 20,000-square-foot fitness center with all the latest toys for those looking to get in a workout.
  • Of all the amenities that FORTH Atlanta has, its biggest selling point may be its location. A stay here not only means you’re a quick Uber ride from downtown, but you’re just a quick walk from Ponce City Market and the Eastside portion of the Beltline.

The Rooms

  • FORTH’s room choices range from a 260-square-foot King to two-bedroom suites that are more than 850 square feet. Our favorite unit, however, is the Chamfered Corner King, a uniquely positioned room that grants amazing views of a plaza, Historic Fourth Ward Park and the downtown skyline.
  • No matter which room type you go with, your space will have floral wallpapering, wood flooring, hand-knotted rugs and a generous assortment of Le Labo toiletries around the sinks. The accommodations are swanky and smart.
  • Like every other higher-end hotel in the city, rooms have a stocked minibar. But where this one makes its mark is with the alcohol on offer. Bourbons from nearby labels like Old Fourth Distillery and Chattanooga Whiskey prove thoughtfulness in the curating process.
