Monument Hotel 5*GL

Neo-Gothic architecture and destination dining in Barcelona
VERIFIED LUXURY
Few addresses place you closer to the heart of Barcelona than Monument Hotel 5*GL. Occupying a painstakingly restored Neo-Gothic mansion, this grand address sits near two of Gaudí’s masterpieces — the Casa Batlló and La Pedrera — while designer boutiques, galleries and top-rated tapas bars line the elegant Passeig de Gràcia just outside.

The hotel is also home to one of the city’s most celebrated gourmet destinations: Lasarte Restaurant, the acclaimed dining room from Martín Berasategui, Spain's most decorated chef. Between Lasarte and Monument Hotel’s collection of additional eateries and bars, guests are never far from an exceptional meal.

With its culinary credentials, architectural pedigree and walkable location, Monument Hotel offers a sophisticated base for exploring the Catalan capital. Add a scenic rooftop pool overlooking the city, elegant balconies and attentive service, and you have one of the most impressive luxury hotels in Barcelona.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The property’s enviable location in the heart of the Eixample district ensures guests are within easy reach of many of Barcelona’s main sights, including the fantastical works of architect Antoni Gaudí — whose colorful, unconventional designs helped define the city — the bohemian streets of Gràcia, the Gothic Quarter and the bustling La Boqueria Market.
  • History and architecture lovers will find plenty to appreciate here. Occupying the landmark Enric Batlló House, a Neo-Gothic mansion built in the late 1800s for Enric Batlló — a member of the prominent family behind the nearby Casa Batlló — the property was designed by celebrated Catalan architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, whose works include Barcelona’sArc de Triomf. Its striking facade of brick, stone, ceramic and wrought iron has been beautifully restored, while elegant contemporary interiors complement the historic building's character.
  • After a morning exploring the city, head for the luxury hotel’s rooftop. Complete with a plunge pool, cocktail bar and sun-soaked terrace lined with daybeds, it offers a calm oasis above the fray with excellent views across La Pedrera and its iconic chimneys. It’s also where you'll find the compact yet modern gym.
  • At the Wellness Studio, guests can relax with an indulgent Mediterranean ritual, such as the signature Aroma Vitality Ritual. During this indulgent 120-minute experience, guests are treated to a full-body aromatherapy massage and a personalized facial.
  • The hotel’s 84 rooms and suites offer a more contemporary take on luxury, a pleasing contrast with the mansion’s historic bones. Ranging from 269 square feet in the entry-level categories to nearly 1,400 square feet in the largest suites, the rooms feature natural oak flooring and furnishings, exposed brick walls and balconies overlooking either the boulevard or inner courtyard. Goose-down duvets, Egyptian cotton sheets, Diptyque bath products and freestanding deep-soaking bathtubs sweeten your stay.

The Restaurants

  • While Lasarte Restaurant may have put Monument Hotel on the gastronomic map, it would be a mistake to stop there. All five of the Barcelona hotel’s dining venues are overseen by chef Berasategui, a living culinary legend. So even if you miss out on a coveted table at Lasarte, rest assured you'll still eat exceptionally well at this address.
  • At Lasarte, you're in for far more than just a meal. Led by head chef Paolo Casagrande, chef Berasategui's longtime collaborator and protégé, the restaurant is known for its inventive tasting menus, which draw on the culinary traditions of Catalonia, the Basque Country and Italy, often with seafood playing a starring role. For something even more exclusive, enquire about Il Milione, an intimate private dining experience that offers a uniquely personal take on the Lasarte philosophy.
  • The rooftop is home to two excellent dining options. Glasss Restaurant serves breakfast in a bright, sun-filled dining room overlooking the plunge pool, while Verbena Terrace serves up Mediterranean dishes, tapas and cocktails with views. Time your visit right, and you may even catch one of the Barcelona hotel's twice-monthly free-flow brunches, a lively affair that combines outstanding food from chef Berasategui's team with what many consider one of the city's best daytime fiestas.
  • Located on the ground floor, Bera brings chef Berasategui's culinary style to a more relaxed setting. The menu celebrates Spanish and Mediterranean flavors through refined yet approachable dishes, from Cantabrian anchovies in extra-virgin olive oil to grilled Iberian pork and cod kokotxas (tender throat or jaw meat) with cockles and chives, all served in a bright contemporary space.
