When Madame Pommery, the grande dame who transformed the namesake champagne house into one of the region’s finest, was searching for a gift for her daughter, she chose an expansive estate overlooking Reims and its stained-glass Gothic cathedral. Mirroring the sloped mansard roofs topping landmarks like the Louvre, former family home-turned-hotel Domaine Les Crayères is still as striking a château today as when it was completed in 1904.

Celebrated interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon draped the 20 rooms and suites — named after empresses, queens and princesses — in regal fabrics sourced from Pierre Frey’s historical archives, crowned beds with plush matching canopies and sourced period furniture Pommery would’ve been proud of.

While the Lebanese cedar-lined park grounds remain one of the property’s most impressive features — and on full display from some of the rooms — Domaine Les Crayères is also home to one of the region’s top gastronomic restaurants with a wine list offering more than a thousand champagnes.

Our Inspector's Highlights

While all of the accommodations are spacious and elegantly decorated, the pièce de resistance is the Imperial Room, whose expansive French windows open to a balcony overlooking sweeping views of the park.
Chef Christophe Moret, who spent time at Alain Ducasse’s former restaurant at Paris’ Hôtel Plaza Athénée, helms lauded Le Parc. His menus spotlight the finest of French ingredients and flavors — plus there’s an impressive cheese trolley highlighting regional specialties. While Le Parc requires formal attire, for more laid-back cuisine, Brasserie Le Jardin serves garden-fresh fare crafted from seasonal ingredients sourced from local growers.
Tartan-accented Bar La Rotonde, which feels like it was plucked out of the English countryside, is a local favorite and serves a selection of snacks crafted by chef Moret. When the weather is nice, take a seat with a glass of champagne on the loungelike terrace overlooking the manicured gardens.
The concierge service can arrange experiences like visits to nearby champagne houses, cruises on the Marne River and hot air balloon rides. Guests can also take part in activities like horseback riding, golf, hiking or cycling on the hotel’s own electric bikes.
The luxury hotel sits on a 17-acre, Lebanese cedar-filled park designed by Édouard André and Jules-Édouard Redont, which gives the property a private villa feel despite its location near the heart of downtown Reims.

Things to Know

Domaine Les Crayères welcomes both dogs and children, offering amenities like baby cots, highchairs and bottle warmers, as well as kids’ menus at its restaurants. The property also features elevators and accessible rooms for guests with reduced mobility.
Throughout the year, the Reims hotel hosts a variety of events, including four-hand dinners with guest chefs, private wine experiences and celebrations on holidays like Bastille Day.
The property closes from mid-December to mid-January.
While restaurants serve a snack menu in the later afternoon and some evenings, room service is available 24 hours.
