InterContinental Indianapolis

Indy’s restored regal retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY
Stepping through the brass-framed doors of InterContinental Indianapolis feels like entering a love letter to the city’s golden age. Set within the century-old Illinois Building, the newly opened luxury hotel blends Beaux-Arts grandeur with a cosmopolitan polish that feels unmistakably modern. The lobby unfolds in marble and light — soaring ceilings crowned by a three-story hand-blown glass chandelier — inviting you to linger as the city hums just beyond the revolving doors.

Upstairs, 170 guest rooms cocoon travelers in soft neutrals and luxe textures, complete with Beautyrest Black mattresses, Byredo bath amenities and Nespresso coffee to jumpstart the day. Adding to the creature comforts, some suites offer deep soaking tubs perfect for unwinding after a stroll around Monument Circle.

Evenings belong to Astrea, the rooftop bar and restaurant from chef Craig Baker, where craft cocktails and skyline views create the city’s newest perch for celebration. Elegant yet approachable, this is Indianapolis’ modern statement in refined hospitality.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Be sure to spend an afternoon at Astrea Rooftop Bar, the only Indianapolis bar with views over Monument Circle. Come for the vista but stay for the velvet seating and well-curated craft cocktail list (try the Monumental G&T).
  • Breakfast at Serliana is a hearty affair, thanks to a menu of French brasserie-meets-Midwest fare. Think lemon ricotta pancakes, truffle omelets and a creamy avocado toast topped with peppery radish and fresh herbs.
  • Each floor features a sleek hydration station where guests can refill glass carafes with still or sparkling water at the touch of a button. In place of a standard ice machine, a discreet freezer offers individually wrapped bags of ice — a touch that speaks to theIndianapolis hotel’s meticulous attention to detail.
  • The navy and two-toned gray color palette in the rooms ties the building’s historic grandeur to modern tastes, as do chaise longues, tufted headboards and brass and marble accents.
  • The walk-in shower in every guest room is generous and modern, but if you manage to snag a suite, some feature a deep soaking tub tucked beside the full-width window that’s just begging for a glass of wine to pair with those downtown skyline views.

The Look

  • The hotel’s façade preserves the original granite-and-limestone shell of the Illinois Building, complete with Moderne bas-relief panels and a gold-glazed terra-cotta cornice — a grand nod to its 1925 provenance.
  • Your arrival through resplendent brass doors adorned with intricate grillwork set against alabaster panels instantly makes you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. Inside, public spaces anchored by Italian marble floors and walls lend the ambiance of an urban gallery as much as a luxury hotel.
  • At its heart, InterContinental Indianapolis features a three-story hand-blown glass chandelier and bespoke Murano fixtures that float above the lobby, marrying Italian craftsmanship with Indianapolis flair.
  • A curated art program, featuring commissions by Indiana-based and connected artists, rounds out the design narrative — local identity woven into global luxury.
  • In the guest rooms, soft neutrals, 300-thread-count linens, Beautyrest Black mattresses and a full wet bar optimize comfort and convenience while dialing up the glamour.
