Mamilla Hotel

Jerusalem’s chic, centrally located stay
VERIFIED LUXURY

Worlds collide in stylish fashion at Jerusalem’s Mamilla Hotel Grand, where modest materials are transformed into sleek, contemporary spaces fit for the international jet-set crowd. A minimalist approach to decor gives the feeling of a chic showroom or artist's loft rather than a luxury hotel set smack in the middle of a bustling city center. The overall effect is serene — a welcome escape from the lively streets just outside the Jerusalem hotel’s lobby.

But the hotel holds more than a classic appeal. Its enviable Mamilla Avenue address, just a stone’s throw from Jerusalem’s best upscale shopping and ancient attractions, also proves a headliner. But the chic bars, extensive spa, underground pool and unbeatable rooftop terrace shine as supporting characters as well.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • A rarity in large cities like Jerusalem, Mamilla Hotel Grand’s 194 rooms and suites all offer luxurious deep-soaking tubs. Encased in glass, the freestanding tub serves as the room’s centerpiece, though those who favor privacy can turn the glass opaque at the touch of a button.
  • Oenophiles should head for the winery, where a 300-bottle cellar stands ready to offer up some of Israel’s best vintages. Olive oil tastings are also on the table here.
  • The modern Mirror Bar is a hot spot for influencers and politicians alike. A DJ spins an eclectic mix of tunes almost every night of the week (except Fridays when the bar closes for Shabbat) while cocktails flow freely in the contemporary, candle-lit space.
  • Mamilla Hotel Grand’s Akasha Spa is surprisingly large for its city-center locale. In addition to a wide range of serene services, the spa features a private hammam and watsu pool, as well as a low-lit heated pool, sauna and hot tub for aquatic relaxation.
  • Wall-to-wall windows show off an enviable view of the Old City from the Rooftop Outdoor Lounge & Restaurant. Grab a table here to enjoy light breezes, live music and flame-grilled lamb and seafood.

The Look

  • Moshe Safdie-designed spaces make use of local Jerusalem limestone, beautifully juxtaposed with sleek black steel accents like the central staircase that leads upstairs from the lobby — simple but highly effective.
  • An effective use of lighting throughout the property enhances the feeling of serenity even into the evening. Uplighting in the guest rooms, candlelit lounges and back-lit marble at Mirror Bar provide a calming atmosphere after a day spent in the desert sun.
  • Piero Lissoni-curated interiors feature intentionally placed pops of color that brighten up otherwise monastic-feeling shared spaces. Low furniture and sparsely decorated rooms offer a showroom-quality ambiance.
