Hurawalhi Island Resort

A romantic private island oasis

The adults-only Hurawalhi Island Resort sits on a private island in the stunning Lhaviyani Atoll in the Maldives. The surrounding waters are clear and teeming with sea creatures you can see from your standalone villa, in the restaurant or by snorkeling around the property.

No matter which of the 90 villas you pick, each offers dazzling views of the water and sky. Most rise above the water on stilts to help give you a secluded feeling and an uninterrupted visage of the Maldives' unparalleled natural beauty. For those looking to be on solid ground, the beach pool villas reside on the island with the sand right outside a private pool.

Every villa exudes a laid-back elegance that manages to be both beach-friendly and luxurious. The tile bathrooms and wooden-accented living spaces are swathed in aquamarine with pops of artwork here and there. With plenty of places to lounge and take in the natural beauty, it's easy to spend hours just enjoying the remote accommodations.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Romantic Villa is the only stay with a deep soaking bathtub, which happens to be outside but hidden from view. It’s a special experience to take a hot bath amid the Maldives’ striking scenery.
  • Book a treatment at Sulha Spa to add another layer of pure relaxation. There are massages, couples' treatments, facials, a sound bath, pedicures and more. For something local, try the Maldivian Serenity Ritual, which uses coconut oil sourced from the area in a hair mask, full-body massage and body scrub.
  • The Maldives hotel helps you get in the water. Learn more about what lives under the sea at the Hurawalhi Marine Biology Center, take a dolphin and/or manta ray sighting trip or take a fishing boat out.
  • Hurawalhi Island Resort has its own private sandbank called Dream Island, where you can have secluded picnics surrounded by crystal-clear waters.
  • There's nothing like the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant. The world’s largest all-glass undersea restaurant plunges diners 5.8 meters (or 19 feet) below Hurawalhi Maldives for a carefully curated tasting menu and excellent wine pairings.

The Restaurants

  • Get the feeling of dining on the beach without the sand at Kashibo Restaurant and Bar, the resort's airy Asian-influenced concept. Whether seated in the main dining area or at a two-top in the bar, make sure to take in the sweeping vista of the water, which surrounds the restaurant. Expect to dine on items such as prawn toast with housemade brioche and chili mayonnaise; cha ca la, a Hanoi-style Maldivian reef fish marinated in coriander, galangal, chilies and spring onion; an array of dumplings; sushi and sashimi; and lobster tail in a green Thai beurre blanc.
  • For an intimate dinner, head to Kashibo Teppanyaki, a small semi-indoor spot with just a few seats surrounding the chef. The tasting menu is set each night and can be paired with sake. Because the chef works right in front of you, expect a little entertainment to go with the meal.
  • Find a buffet of international dishes at Canneli. Be sure to visit the live stations with risotto cooked in a Parmesan wheel, whole fish carved for sushi and live Asian stir-fries.

  • Visit the poolside JFK – Junk Food Kitchen for gourmet comfort food like tacos, pizzas, salads and juicy burgers.

  • The Maldives hotel offers private dining experiences on the Dream Island sandbank and at its chef’s table under the stars for up to 10 guests.
