Mr. C Miami Coconut Grove

Contemporary Italian flair in Miami’s oldest neighborhood
VERIFIED LUXURY

Coconut Grove is Miami’s oldest neighborhood, dating back to 1873. Yet in booking a Miami trip, “The Grove,” as it is locally known, may be easily overlooked amid Miami Beach’s white sand swank, Wynwood’s colorful graffiti-draped facades and Brickell’s towering financial district.

The 2019 arrival of Mr. C Miami Coconut Grove was a game-changer for the affluent neighborhood, providing a stylish home base for exploring Coconut Grove’s sidewalk cafés, sailboat- and yacht-dotted landscapes along Biscayne Bay and boutiques upon boutiques. The heart of Coconut Grove — Grand Avenue and the CocoWalk shopping complex — is just a half-block north.

Designed by Arquitectonica and with interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the hotel looks like one of the elegant liners you might see in the bay, with porthole windows on the bright white façade, glossy timber inside and other nautically inspired nooks to explore. But you’ll also find other necessary amenities, like BeAtala spa, specializing in science-based beauty treatments and IV services; a first-floor fitness center whose Technogym and Peloton equipment is available 24 hours a day; and a noted Italian rooftop restaurant. In a town where water vistas and cultural vibrancy reign supreme, Mr. C Miami Coconut Grove anchors itself as a chic escape.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Homages to all things nautical ooze throughout the property, including an overarching white and blue color palette, treated wood furnishings and periodic sailboat photos. Take a look at the hallways, too — their stately lengthiness resembles what you’d see on a mega yacht or luxe cruise liner.
  • There are 100 rooms, each with outdoor balconies. Vistas span the Coconut Grove skyline, the hotel’s courtyard and Biscayne Bay. The luxury hotel’s largest offering is its Presidential Suite, spanning 1,400 square feet with a full-sized kitchen, a dining room, a living room, two bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and two balconies.
  • Head to the rooftop where a pool awaits with panoramic views of the bay and, on a clear day, you can also see Miami Beach in the distance. Luxury cabanas are available for rent as well and include a TV and stocked refrigerator.
  • The Cipriani family — which opened Venice’s famed Harry’s Bar, the birthplace of the Bellini cocktail — is not only behind the boutique hotel but also its rooftop restaurant Bellini. Come here for the signature drink and authentic Italian fare that’s been passed down for four generations.
  • While the surrounding neighborhood is eminently walkable, Mr. C offers complimentary bike rentals for guests out of its porte cochère. Bikeable from the property are the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens and the heart of Coral Gables, Coral Way.

The Restaurants

  • Bellini is Mr. C’s most-buzzed-about restaurant. It specializes in classic Italian dishes and occupies the top floor of the Miami hotel. Beyond lamb chops, Chilean sea bass and house-made pasta, its Sunday brunch menu attracts the masses. You’ll want to book a reservation in advance.
  • Bellini Bar is within Bellini, serving up signature cocktails and aperitivos. Opt for the bar’s namesake, which includes fresh white peach purée and the hotel’s very own prosecco.
  • Il Giardino is a lobby-level escape just outside Mr. C’s front door and by the valet. Open daily, Il Giardino turns out protein smoothies, savory croissants and various crepe and bruschetta creations. Visit on the weekends for live music and movie nights.
