Sax Paris, LXR Hotels & Resorts

A Left Bank landmark’s modern makeover
VERIFIED LUXURY

Sax Paris, LXR Hotels & Resorts sits in the affluent 7th arrondissement, an area known more for its landmarks than luxury hotels. After all, this is the Left Bank neighborhood that claims the city’s most iconic monument — the Eiffel Tower. Camouflaging with the area’s prestigious hôtels particulars (grand townhouses once belonging to French nobles), the 118-room Sax Paris silently holds court in a landmark of its own, the 1899 neo-Gothic building once housing the Ségur telephone exchange.

The historic bones are still there, but its transition to a boutique hotel offered the opportunity to infuse modern touches like Murano glass chandeliers from Venetian artist Christian Pellizzari and digital artwork from Belgium-based Drop The Spoon. Street art-inspired frescoes are splashed across the ceiling of signature Le Sax restaurant, and a contemporary sculpture from artist Arik Levvy is placed proudly on display at the entrance to the tucked-away garden. It’s a chic take on a Parisian café terrace, where you can go from sipping champagne to taking a dip in the outdoor heated pool — the ultimate luxury in a city like Paris.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Rooms show off views over the courtyard and gardens or Avenue de Saxe — all of which are on display from suites’ sumptuous soaking tubs. The coveted King Deluxe Room with Terrace are some of the top hotel accommodations in the city when it comes to private patios.
  • From the rooftop terrace of Franco-Japanese eatery Kinugawa Rive Gauche, you’ll have 360-degree views of the city’s top landmarks — the Eiffel Tower being the highlight.
  • All-day establishment Le Sax offers a mix of elevated French classics like decadent chicken supreme and cordon bleu, as well as hotel favorites such as club sandwiches. In the evenings, the canapé menu is on the more daring side with shareable snacks like lobster gyozas and an Italian amuse-bouche in the form of an arancini with confit lemon.
  • Le Jardin Sax is modeled after beautifully manicured French gardens and crowned by a raised, marble-clad heated outdoor pool and hot tub — rarities for a Paris hotel.
  • Sax Paris’ Baccarat chandelier-filled Galerie, the sultry, red velvet couch-lined space at the hotel’s entry, doubles as a lobby and cocktail bar perfect for starting or ending the evening.

Things to Know

  • Massages and facials are available on request in the subterranean spa’s two treatment spaces or in-room. Sax Le Club Fitness & Spa’s amenities (sauna, hammam) and Technogym-equipped fitness center are open 24 hours.
  • Both pets and kids receive first-class treatment with welcome treats and toys, plus amenities like dog beds and teepees for children ages two to eight. Families can opt to add an extra bed for older children or book connecting rooms.
  • The luxury hotel offers designer bikes for exploring around the city in style.
  • This stretch of the 7th arrondissement is on the more residential side, so it’s not as lively as nearby Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The main attraction here is the Saxe-Breteuil marché (market), which unfolds behind the École Militaire on Thursdays and Saturdays. The world’s first department store, Le Bon Marché, and its gourmet food emporium La Grande Épicerie de Paris (who partnered with the hotel on minibar snacks and private shopping experiences) are also a short stroll away.
