The St. Regis Red Sea Resort

A private piece of paradise
VERIFIED LUXURY

A chartered speedboat or seaplane whisks guests to The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, setting the tone for the stay at Saudi Arabia's first private island. A piece of unspoiled paradise in the Red Sea, the exclusive overwater accommodations recall the barefoot luxuriousness of the Maldives. However, this resort — the first to open in the Red Sea as part of the country’s ambitious new tourism project — is grounded in its unique sense of place, thanks to architect Kengo Kuma and Kristina Zanic Consultants' intentional designs that integrate the region's natural elements into every corner.

The resort's 90 villas feel like deserted island hideaways, with private pools and furnished sun decks that blend the indoors and outdoors to stunning effect. Dune villas open onto the beach, and the overwater Coral Villas offer direct access to the shimmering sea. Elsewhere on the property, you will find three impressive dining venues, each with a distinct flair. The spa also wisely utilizes the resort's natural beauty with dreamy outdoor treatment rooms.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Designers found inspiration in the forms, colors and textures of the resort’s natural surroundings. The buildings’ soft lines and spiral shapes mimic the dunes and coral reefs. Neutral sand tones offset by pops of striking blue mirror the shades of the natural desert island, creating a seamlessly sublime effect.
  • The St. Regis Spa utilizes its spectacular natural setting by offering eight outdoor treatment rooms complete with a gazebo and outdoor bath. Standout services include a decadent caviar collagen-boosting facial, a traditional Royal hammam ritual and a deeply relaxing aromatherapy massage.
  • The delightful rendition of the St. Regis signature hotel bar features the Coral Mary, a non-alcoholic spin (per regional custom) on the traditional Bloody Mary flavored with sumac, turmeric and spirulina algae that’s served in custom glassware by Saudi designer Qormuz. The bar’s eye-catching mural depicts a story drawn from the local folklore tale of a runaway bride who escapes to join the mermaids in the nearby Blue Hole.
  • You will find no shortage of aquatic adventures here, with shimmering clear waters, some of the world’s best coral reefs and all the supplies needed to explore. The Red Sea hotel’s beach club provides kayaks, glass-bottom boats and diving excursions to see nearby wreck sites up close.
  • The resort’s dining venues have their own ambiance and cuisine. Nesma serves Middle Eastern dishes made with locally sourced ingredients in an airy, bright space. The sleek Gishiki 45 specializes in specialty wagyu dishes and other takes on modern Japanese cuisine. The most formal restaurant, Tilina, floats above the water and serves three tasting menus centered around land, sea and local produce.
The Rooms
  • The property’s villas, ranging from one to four bedrooms, come in two styles: Dune and Coral. All villas seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces and provide generous living areas, ranging from 807 to 3,755 square feet. Each unit features a private pool, outdoor showers, furnished sundecks and floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • The design of the beachfront Dune Villas resembles the sweeping formations of desert sand. The airy interiors have unique textures and materials such as tiled mosaics, raw wood and macramé. The villa’s proximity to the luxury resort’s amenities makes it an ideal choice for guests who prefer convenience to total privacy.
  • Perched over the water and connected by elevated walkways, the stunning Coral Villas give direct access to the Red Sea from each deck with blinds that raise to reveal the gorgeous water view with a push of a bedside button. These romantic hideaways feel like an escape unto themselves.
  • Although every villa here wows, consider the 3,755-square-foot Presidential Dune Villa for the ultimate splurge. The four bedrooms accommodate 12, and the ample indoor and outdoor space, private study, comfortable living area, personal kitchen and dining room, terrace and a deck ensure that, even if you’re traveling with the family, you’ll find no shortage of space.
