Mission Pacific Beach Resort

A cool, contemporary waterfront stay
VERIFIED LUXURY

Set in the heart of the seaside town of Oceanside and across the street from its iconic pier, Mission Pacific Beach Resort is the sister property to the adjacent The Seabird Ocean Resort & Spa. Mission Pacific’s design aesthetic, from the lobby to communal spaces, has a California cool, contemporary ambiance set with soft lighting and warm neutral colors.

Together, the Mission Pacific and Seabird resorts made up the largest oceanfront hotel development in San Diego County in more than 50 years when they were built in 2021. Guests of Mission Pacific have access to the Seabird’s amenities, including the spa and pool, as well as The Beach Rambler, an outpost on the sand that offers complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas.

The hotel has 161 rooms and suites across seven floors. The property is crowned by an expansive pool deck and The Rooftop Bar, a stunning space offering live DJ sessions and remarkable vistas of the coast. The resort is a dining destination as its marquee restaurant, Valle, is an acclaimed restaurant that pays homage to Baja cuisine.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The senses are taken on quite the ride in Mission Pacific Beach Resort’s rooms. The hands will immediately want to touch the beach-chic bespoke furniture. Eyes can’t help but wander to windows looking out to postcard-perfect scenes of the Pacific. All the while, the nose will be captivated by toiletries by Apothia, a beloved fragrance brand founded by Ron Robinson. Apothia developed custom scents for both Mission Pacific Beach Resort and The Seabird.
  • The iconic Victorian-era cottage that appeared in the movie Top Gun was restored and incorporated into the property. Known as the Top Gun House, it’s a popular attraction with its own café, High-Pie. Eighties music and fun memorabilia from the film greet guests. You can enjoy the home’s historic details while you wait for a cup of coffee or sweet fruit handheld pie.
  • At the rooftop pool, private cabanas accommodating up to six guests can be rented for a day in the sun or evening hours for watching the sunset in style. At night, The Rooftop Bar transforms into an adults-only nightlife venue complete with a DJ, creating an upscale lounge experience that contrasts with the more family-friendly Seabird. Favored by locals, the bar features reserved table service, small plates, craft cocktails and a food menu until 11 p.m. on weekends.
  • Adjacent to the pool, The Lanai invites guests to relax in a cozy nook awash with bright colors and a fireplace when it’s not in use for a private event. The walk across the bridge to the pool deck provides one of the best panoramic views of Oceanside Beach and pier.
  • The onsite shop, The Ozone, is worth browsing for fun gifts, upscale clothing and beach attire. Toiletries, candles and room mists featuring the resort’s custom scents by Apothia — Bronzed for Mission Pacific and Wave for Seabird — are also available at the store for purchase.
The Restaurants
  • Led by chef Roberto Alcocer, Valle highlights the cuisine and wines of Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe, a growing viticulture region in Baja California two hours south of San Diego. The area has received more media attention and acclaim for its innovative vintners and a burgeoning culinary scene that blends traditional Mexican ingredients with Mediterranean and rustic cooking techniques, all rooted in the region’s local seafood and produce.
  • Valle features a thoughtfully curated list of Baja California wines, including a pairing option composed exclusively of selections from the region. This gives diners an opportunity to explore the area's flavors without having to cross the border.
  • Alcocer’s cooking can be enjoyed in a variety of formats: the eight-course tasting menu with optional wine pairing; an exclusive and intimate chef’s table dinner inside the kitchen; or the El Sillón bar experience, a four-course menu that changes daily. Menu highlights include the signature midnight-black charred onion tart topped with Kilo caviar, braised Niman Ranch lamb barbacoa and a rotating selection of seasonal seafood.
  • High/Low is the resort’s ground-floor café that features an expansive patio with views of the pier, shoreline and North Pacific Street — a relaxing and scenic spot for an alfresco meal or drink. Open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the menu is filled with flavorful breakfast dishes (a savory hash with the famed seasoned tri-tip from Cardiff Seaside Market) and delightful lunch options (Manila clam chowder, cauliflower tacos). Beer, wine and cocktails are also available.
