Trump International Scotland

Links, whisky and wild Scottish coastlines
VERIFIED LUXURY

Located on a stretch of coastline north of Aberdeen, Trump International Scotland delivers a lavish take on the traditional Scottish golf resort. Spread across the 1,400-acre Menie Estate, the property is surrounded by towering sand dunes, windswept grasses and uninterrupted North Sea views, giving it a wonderfully wild, remote feel. At its heart are two championship links courses, designed by legendary golf course architect Martin Hawtree, which thread through one of Scotland’s most spectacular coastal landscapes.

Guests stay in MacLeod House & Lodge, a baronial mansion where wood-paneled interiors and traditional log fires provide a cozy counterpoint to the outside world. Dining showcases Scottish ingredients and whiskies, while activities such as clay shooting and coastal walks make the most of the rugged Aberdeenshire setting. Golf may be the main event, but this luxury resort has a broader appeal, combining Scottish hospitality with a rare sense of seclusion.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Trump International Scotland’s biggest draw is its pair of award-winning Martin Hawtree-designed golf courses, both set among rolling dunes overlooking the North Sea. The Old Course is the resort’s iconic layout, while the New Course, unveiled in 2025, introduces a different style of play with wider fairways, strategic water hazards and sweeping coastal panoramas.
  • The luxury hotel is around a 20- to 30-minute drive from Aberdeen, making it easy to venture beyond the fairways. Spend a day exploring the city, or head into the countryside of Aberdeenshire to visit castles — including nearby Balmoral, the summer retreat of the British royal family — or follow the region’s whisky trail, stopping at historic distilleries and heritage sites.
  • Guests can try their hand at traditional country pursuits, including professionally guided deer stalking, clay shooting, falconry, archery and fishing, across this sprawling private estate, giving both golfing and non-golfing guests alike the chance to experience a taste of Scotland's long sporting traditions.
  • The vast grounds are also home to myriad wildlife. Across the area’s meadows, woodlands, dunes and wetlands, coastal birds and migratory species share the landscape with deer, swans, owls and the resort’s own fold of shaggy Highland cattle.
  • Whisky is naturally a highlight here, especially in the walnut-paneled Clavis Whisky Bar.Home to more than 250whiskies from Scotland and around the world, it’s the perfect place to settle in for a guided tasting or after-dinner dram.

The Rooms

  • The Scotland resort’s 18 rooms and suites are split between MacLeod House, which dates to the 15th century, and the adjacent Lodge, a beautifully restored 19th-century stable block that once formed part of the original estate. Both have been thoughtfully transformed into luxurious accommodations that preserve their historic character.
  • Those traveling with family or simply craving a bit more space may gravitate toward The Great North Sea Residences, a collection of five heritage cottages overlooking the coastline and championship courses. Carefully restored and full of Scottish character, these secluded retreats offer private entrances and access to an exclusive putting green.
  • Dark wood bedside tables, writing desks and other traditional furnishings evoke the atmosphere of a grand country estate. The centerpiece of many rooms is the dramatic bed, which may feature ornately carved dark wood or gilded crests fit for a stately home.
  • The décor leans classically grand, with sumptuous fabrics, richly patterned upholstery and warm hues of gold, bronze and burnt orange. Heritage-inspired damasks and plaid fabrics give the spacious rooms a distinctly Scottish feel, while dedicated butler services further elevate the experience.
  • The period décor is balanced by modern comforts. Expect nightly turndown services, complete with complimentary treats like hot toddies and millionaire's shortbread, as well as Italian marble bathrooms fitted with heated floors, and Natura Bissé and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.
