The Singapore EDITION

Stylish seclusion near Orchard Road
VERIFIED LUXURY

The first property from the EDITION brand — a collaboration between pioneering hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott Hotels & Resorts — in Southeast Asia, The Singapore EDITION is a study in colors and textures. Opened in November 2023, it was designed by global powerhouse Safdie Architects (the outfit behind the iconic Jewel Changi Airport, which sits 45 minutes away) and local firm DP Architects.

For shoppers, the location is hard to beat. Ten minutes on foot brings you to the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore’s de facto Fifth Avenue or Rodeo Drive. And yet the hotel’s site, on a quiet street with handsome, leafy landscaping, makes it a refuge from Orchard’s bustle. The slatted facade, combining bronze and glass, coupled with an almost-yesteryear cobblestone driveway, lends The Singapore EDITION a pleasingly secluded, private feel.

Once inside the property, you will find bold spaces that resound with Schrager’s trademark minimalist sensibilities. That said, generous additions of greenery and splashes of vibrant color throughout the hotel add both comfort and vigor to the standard sleek, chic setup.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Guests will be wowed from the get-go. The whitewashed lobby appears almost like a sanctuary, bathed in marble and populated by robust, leafy potted plants. Look up toward the domed ceiling for something unusual — an oval of gold leaf beams down almost like an internal sun. Elsewhere, a retro-futuristic spiral staircase that leads to a courtyard is artfully sensuous. Made with Venetian plaster, it looks like a mysterious portal to an unknown realm.
  • The building is anchored by a large, timber-decked interior courtyard, and rooms wrap around the space. That central core is filled with greenery, and some rooms look onto it. This allows the Singapore hotel to feel both urban and connected to nature.
  • Accommodations themselves are clean and calm, with white oak floors, simple artwork and white-on-white bathrooms. The 204 rooms range from a Standard King to the EDITION Penthouse — the pick of the bunch — with seating on a generous outdoor deck, a shaded plunge pool and a full kitchen.
  • The spa features steam rooms, a vitality pool, saunas and seven treatment rooms. Therapies celebrate Singapore’s multiculturalism, which is why they are influenced by Malay and Indian disciplines and ingredients.
  • On the top-floor sky park, you will find a spacious infinity pool flanked by loungers and banks of greenery. One section of the pool has an acrylic base that looks onto the verdant courtyard nine floors below.

The Restaurants

  • Of all the sections within The Singapore EDITION, the bars and restaurants are the most theatrical. The Lobby Bar broadcasts adventurous pops of pink, from the baize on the Calacatta-marble pool table to the backlighting of the towering drink display, to the small clusters of orchids on tables.
  • Next to the reception area, FYSH is helmed by Australian chef Josh Niland and focuses on seafood. It’s a dramatic boîte, with high ceilings, timber panels and doorways, jade banquettes that mirror the hues of the abundant plants, and grand art pieces. The side conservatory, with seating for 22, is packed with ferns from Southeast Asia.
  • Night owls will appreciate a pair of options. The Punch Room is a concept across all EDITION properties. Oak blankets the walls and ceilings, but it’s the deep rich Yves Klein blue glow that is most memorable. From the upholstered seating to the large ceiling pendant, blue bathes all surfaces of the bar, where the punches mine the bounty of Southeast Asian spices.
  • Touches of blue and terracotta appear around The Roof bar, a semi-outdoor space with locally accented classic cocktails, regional bites and lush greenery.
