Exclusivity abounds at Vahine Private Island, a secluded resort on a private motu (or island) in the lagoon of Taha’a in French Polynesia. Nestled between a crystal-clear lagoon and the ocean, the boutique property only has nine bungalows, some on the beach and others over the water. Each room type features outdoor showers, private terraces or balconies, woven bamboo decor, soaring ceilings and dramatic sunset views. Shells, natural woods and pearls are also incorporated into the design.
Coconut trees, lush tropical gardens and views of neighboring Bora Bora can be seen on walks around the grounds. The luxury hotel’s restaurant serves Polynesian cuisine made with freshly caught fish and local produce. Tohonu Bar’s large terrace is an ideal place to sit over the water while enjoying a cocktail.
Onsite activities include badminton, kayaking and treatments at the spa done with oils infused with native flowers and a scrub made from coconut pulp from the property’s own coconut groves.
