The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur

Lakefront luxury, maharaja-style
VERIFIED LUXURY
Framed by the ancient Aravalli Hills and the shimmering waters of Lake Pichola, The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur rises like a palace frozen in time. In Udaipur, the city of lakes, canals and floating palaces, every corner is steeped in centuries of artistry, royal tradition and cinematic romance. Across 30 acres of sprawling gardens, landscape architect Bill Bensley has masterfully mirrored the cityscape through secret courtyards, meandering pathways, rippling fountains and reflective pools.

Guest rooms and suites are restful sanctuaries of light, space and tranquility, many opening onto private terraces and infinity pools. Handcrafted furniture, hand-knotted carpets and intricate artisanal details evoke a subtle, intimate sense of place.

Culinary experiences are equally exceptional. Restaurants serve Rajasthani, Indian and international cuisine, meticulously curated from centuries-old royal recipes and paired with sweeping views of the lake, palaces and hills. Every stay at The Oberoi Udaivilas is a private fantasy, designed for multi-sensorial delight.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Corridors to guest rooms showcase 450 handcrafted stone columns, many finished in Ghutai, a regional finishing technique. Stones are blended with egg white and tamarind to create a creamy, ivory-like glow. Each column takes a month to craft, and the smooth stucco of lime, plaster and crushed marble cures for a year.
  • A design highlight of the Udaipur hotel is the Candle Room, a miniature glass palace crowned by a 25-foot-high dome. The space is decked with intricate Thekri, a centuries-old Rajasthani craft where molten glass is shaped, coated with metals and set into delicate patterns. A spectacular effect is created by flickering candles placed on a central table.
  • The Oberoi Udaivilas offers three standout dining experiences: Suryamahal, with a ceiling that mirrors the day sky; Chandni, which sits under a night-sky canopy; and Udaimahal, an elegant space serving traditional Rajasthani and North Indian dishes.
  • An exclusive floating lunch unfolds aboard a boat on Lake Pichola, set against the stunning backdrop of the City Palace and Jagmandir. The journey begins with an Oberoi signature beverage and canapés, followed by a curated main course and desserts, and concludes with rare teas and gourmet coffees, brewed fresh on board.
  • The spa's signature offering is the Romance of Udaivilās Rejuvenate, a traditional Ayurveda therapy inspired by centuries-old principles of mind-body-spirit balance. Expert therapists use foliation techniques to enhance the absorption of healing Ayurvedic oils, while invigorating strokes tone the body and detoxify internal systems.
