Hoshi

Stellar Japanese-Mexican omakase in Cabo
VERIFIED LUXURY

You’ll see stars in more ways than one at Hoshi, the ethereal Japanese restaurant at One&Only Palmilla, Los Cabos Resort, a legendary address that has discreetly welcomed Hollywood icons and other VIPs for decades. Meaning “star” or “heavenly body” in Japanese, Hoshi draws inspiration from Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival, and its ancient tale of star-crossed lovers, combining refined omakase menus with the exceptional seafood and Baja produce — a match made in heaven.

This intimate 28-seat restaurant occupies a beautifully restored wing of the resort’s historic bell tower, with soaring vaulted ceilings and graceful arched windows that give views across swaying palms to the Sea of Cortez. The menus reflect the Japanese principle of shibui — or unobtrusive, simple beauty — through artfully composed dishes served in a serene setting.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Guests enter through One&Only Palmilla’s historic bell tower, where an atmospheric sound-and-light installation honors both the ancient legend of Hoshi and the resort's own history. Inside, linear pendant lights evoke reflections on the Sea of Cortez, lending the intimate omakase room an ethereal glow.
  • With only 28 seats, Hoshi feels wonderfully intimate. The Los Cabos restaurant offers a mix of standard tables and, staying true to omakase tradition, two sleek counters where guests can watch the chefs at work. Meanwhile, a separate sake bar offers the chance to sample labels from both Japan and Mexico.
  • Guests can choose between two seasonal omakase experiences. The 10-course Kengyuu offers a concise introduction to the chef's daily selection of the finest seafood from the Sea of Cortez and premium Japanese ingredients, while the more expansive 12-course Orihime provides a deeper exploration of the same seasonal philosophy. Both menus may be paired with either sake and signature cocktails or a thoughtfully curated selection of signature mocktails and Japanese teas.
  • Baja's exceptional seafood is the obvious star, evident in dishes like pristine oysters topped with cucumber and lime granita, and an inventive nigiri and maki selection. The robata is every bit as impressive, with delicately charred Chilean sea bass and richly marbled A5 wagyu prepared with the confidence to let outstanding ingredients do the talking.
  • The beverage program exudes the same sense of craftsmanship found in the kitchen. Alongside a carefully curated sake selection, Japanese-inspired cocktails highlight premium spirits like Hibiki whisky and Roku Gin, accented with ingredients such as yuzu, shiso, plum wine and matcha.

Things to Know

  • Be sure to reserve well in advance. For the full omakase experience, request seats at one of Hoshi's two intimate chef's counters, where you'll enjoy a front-row view of each course being prepared and plated.
  • The dress code at Hoshi is resort elegant attire. While jackets aren't required, avoid beachwear, flip-flops and athletic clothing to match the refined atmosphere.
  • Reservations are highly recommended, particularly for the chef's counter and the seasonal omakase menus.
  • While the omakase restaurant is famous for its immersive chef-curated tasting menus, it also features an à la carte counter and menu offering nigiri, sashimi, tempura and robata grill items.
  • Children ages 10 and older are welcome, making Hoshi best suited to older kids and teens who can appreciate the leisurely pace and theater of a multi-course omakase dinner.
