Designed to feel like a secret escape, The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton Sanya, Yalong Bay is tucked away in a lush courtyard setting in its own wing of The Ritz-Carlton Sanya, Yalong Bay. Wandering through the water features, bamboo-lined walkways and pebbled paths is a soothing experience in itself.
From the half-moon arched doorways to the gorgeous latticed wooden details, the common areas and 12 treatment rooms are steeped in Chinese design details. The spa menu follows suit, offering a mix of massages, facials, body scrubs and baths that call upon Asian wellness philosophies.
The spa offers up aromatherapy, botanical herbs, powerful minerals, traditional Chinese massage techniques and tropical ingredients — such as lemongrass, mango and coconut — many of which have been plucked from the hotel’s own organic gardens.
In addition to locally inspired massages and scrubs, there are also a few result-driven anti-aging treatments from Valmont, the Swiss facial specialists.

Things to Know
- In the tranquil reception area, you’ll be treated to a refreshing towel and choice of chilled beverage. At this time, a therapist will explain the selected service and address any of your physical concerns.
- Get there early, stay late... or both. The leisure area in the spa wing includes a relaxation lounge, gym, kinesis studio, experience showers, separate salt-water pools and a lounge with tea and snacks.
- The luxury spa looks out onto the ocean and mountains, enhancing the experience. You can even stay overnight in one of the spa villas if you love the Zen design and easy access to massages.
The Treatments
- More of a night owl? Then the Rejuvenate You package is the way to go. It includes a massage in the moonlight, from the deck of an open-air pavilion, a Roman mineral bath, as well as overnight accommodations and lunch for two.
- The Island Oasis Retreat is all about Sanya’s tropical surroundings with a soothing bamboo massage using nourishing coconut oil to hydrate the skin.
- Aimed at gym warriors, the Peaks of Purity facial intends to rebalance, cleanse and hydrate skin after an intense workout.
- For a local experience, the Ocean Escape incorporates sea salt, marine mud and aromatic oil to relax muscles and hydrate skin. But instead of typical hand pressure, the therapist will use lava sea shells for a deeper massage.
The Design
- The spa feels like a private refuge even though it’s just a few hundred feet from the main hotel grounds. Throughout the sanctuary, traditional Chinese elements add to the appeal — picture bamboo forests, romantic courtyards and stepping stones leading across water features.
- The Chinese accents continue into the warm wood treatment rooms, where pops of red (a lucky color in Chinese culture) bring the space to life, domed ceilings provide spaciousness, and windows overlook the ocean.
- Should you prefer an outdoor massage, the spa can also arrange a treatment in a private pavilion overlooking the gardens or the South China Sea.
