VERIFIED LUXURY
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.

Built in 1902, Matild Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest resides in a beautiful palace that was lovingly restored to its belle époque splendor in 2021. Princess Maria Klotild, the Archduchess of Austria, originally commissioned architects Kálmán Giergl and Flóris Korb to build the two mirroring palaces, the Matild and the Klotild on the opposite side of the street. Equipped with technological innovations such as Hungary’s first elevator in the Matild, the twin palaces earned UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Once home to Belvárosi Kávéház, a literary café frequented by famous Hungarian writers and poets like Gyula Krúdy, Matild Palace is a cultural icon.
Matild Palace's architectural heritage with stained-glass flowers, intricate wrought-iron details and plasterwork evoking confectionery blends harmoniously with Maria Katsarou Vafiadis of MKV Design's contemporary interior design. Art nouveau and Hungarian folk art pepper the décor of the rooms with original pieces by local artists inspired by the literary works penned in the palace's café, while the bathrooms clad with turquoise and gold mosaics are a nod to Budapest's famed thermal baths.
Aside from the rich history and design, the Budapest hotel offers 111 rooms and 19 suites, meals at Spago by Wolfgang Puck and cocktails with sunset river views from the rooftop bar The Duchess.
