Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences

London's architectural marvel
VERIFIED LUXURY
Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences provides everything you would expect from Taj Hotels, a brand renowned for its attention to detail and exceptional service. The establishment offers a more residential experience than a traditional hotel stay, featuring 86 suites across three Edwardian red-brick buildings, with a charming courtyard at its center.

The Minsters, Kings and Falconers suites reflect the luxurious ambiance of the upscale Westminster neighborhood. However, the hotel also embraces a contemporary style, with modern furnishings in its suites and vibrant neon lighting illuminating the courtyard at night.

Check-in comes with a welcome refreshment, taken at reception or in the sun-filled, cozy lounge. Breakfast unfolds at Kona, which transforms by afternoon into a beautifully themed afternoon tea venue. The whole operation runs on a home-away-from-home warmth, rare in a city as buttoned-up as London.

International guests will feel instantly at home, thanks to the hotel's J Wellness Circle spa, the acclaimed Indian restaurant Quilon and the wider dining scene at sister property St James' Court, A Taj Hotel.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • All suites, even the basic type, are exceptionally well-equipped with a full kitchen that includes a fridge, freezer, stovetop oven, dishwasher and a plethora of dishware and cooking utensils. The washer/dryer in the kitchen doesn’t hurt either.
  • You'll feel like you've moved in, not checked in. Reception, Kona, the butlers and the concierge team go out of their way to make guests feel like long-time residents, not overnight visitors.
  • Even the smallest suite is huge by London standards. The unit is equipped with a separate sitting area and a bathroom, which is big enough to get lost in, comes with two heated towel racks, a large glass-walled shower and a deep soaking tub.
  • Completing the hotel's warm, welcoming feel, every guest is invited to a daily complimentary cocktail hour, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., hosted in the lounge, with wine, beer and cocktails all on offer.
  • At the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant Quilon, chef Sriram Aylur brings the flavors of India's southwest coast to the table (think: coconut, curry leaves, black pepper, all woven through seafood-forward dishes).
Things to Know
  • Some suites, including the Kings suites, sit in a separate building from the lobby. That means guests can often come and go freely, without reception, concierge or door staff as a checkpoint.
  • Older, smaller elevators are the norm across London hotels, and this one is no exception. In the King's building specifically, the lift is shared between service staff and guests, so those on higher floors may face the occasional wait.
The Rooms
  • Style, color palette and furnishings shift, depending on which townhouse you land in. Even the most discerning traveler will find a fit.
  • Guests will discover a bedroom with a king-sized plush bed, flat-screen television and a three-seat sofa anchored by a coffee table stacked with magazines and the day's newspapers.
  • The bathrooms at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences go big with double-sink vanity, his-and-hers robes, heated towel racks, a spacious tub and a glass-walled shower with both fixed and handheld heads.
The Look
  • The design of two thematic suites reaches whimsical heights. The two-bedroom Cinema Suite, created by renowned Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, pays tribute to both Old Hollywood and India's Bollywood. It features rare Bollywood film prints, Nina Campbell wallpapers, vintage mirrors, leather Chesterfield sofas, sumptuous silk drapery and elegant oak flooring.
  • The Jaguar Suite, a collaboration between the hotel and Jaguar Land Rover overseen by former Jaguar design director Ian Callum, channels the sports car's DNA through leather, metal and high-gloss veneer, with subtler touches like wood-paneled entrances and custom Jaguar wallpaper.
  • Interiors are elegantly grand yet designed for comfortable living long-term, blending muted, sophisticated tones with vibrant, artistic accents.
