Regent Santa Monica Beach

Modern glamour in Santa Monica
VERIFIED LUXURY
Regent Santa Monica Beach occupies a prized sweep of Los Angeles waterfront. Sitting in front is the Original Muscle Beach — predating Venice’s more commonly known Muscle Beach, it started in the 1930s as an outdoor workout spot for gymnasts and still has equipment like rings. And the iconic Santa Monica Pier, which has been around since 1909 and serves as the end to Route 66, and its spinning Ferris wheel are close by.

The hotel added modern, beach-inspired glamour among the historic attractions when it opened in 2024 as the brand’s return to the U.S. It brought 167 bright, white-and-blue accommodations designed by Wimberly Interiors; a four-story, light-filled atrium lobby from AvroKO’s San Francisco studio with sandy tones and brass sail-shaped dividers; and the Pacific Garden, a grassy parcel next to the beach where Regent Santa Monica hosts special events.

Beyond the beach, the hotel piles on the amenities, including a 10,000-square-foot Guerlain spa, a Mediterranean restaurant from talented chef Michael Mina and a café from chef/restaurateur/celebrity Ayesha Curry.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The luxury hotel sits in a prime location across from Santa Monica Beach near the famed pier. Make the most of it by having the beach butler set up a lounger and umbrella for you on the sand, a complimentary perk for guests.
  • The 12-treatment-room Guerlain Wellness Spa marks the French company’s first West Coast spa. It created some treatments specially for Regent Santa Monica, including Skin Perfection, which combines Guerlain products and methods with the Hydrafacial; Solar Shape, a pre- and post-sun ritual that uses soothing honey; and Crystal Vibes, a crystal sound bath.
  • Chef Mina’s Orla, an outpost of his Vegas restaurant, pays homage to his Egyptian ethnicity in the mouthwatering Mediterranean menu. The succulent Dover sole wrapped in phyllo dough, the mac-and-cheese-like macaroni bechamel and the flavorful lamb shank koshary are all winners. And don’t miss the luscious golden spiral mango tart for dessert.
  • Everything revolves around the water. The U-shaped building, which wraps around Santa Monica’s largest outdoor pool deck, allows most rooms to have ocean views. And Orla’s terrace beautifully frames the waves and palm trees.
  • The accommodations are spacious. Even the smallest room, at 720 square feet, comes with a separate living room and a stone-covered bathroom with a deep-soaking tub and separate walk-in shower. The 3,200-square-foot top-floor Santa Monica Suite is the largest option, with a game room and firepit balcony overlooking the pier, but the 2,180-square-foot Atrium Suite also is a standout, spanning two stories with a glass wall overlooking the water.

  • For travelers with early arrivals or late departures, wait out your check-in or post-checkout flight time in The Lounge, a dedicated space that offers showers, restrooms and a quiet place to unwind.
  • The Atelier lounge is made for those prepping for awards shows and weddings. It comes with styling stations and full-length mirrors.
  • The sage-walled Sweet July is an offshoot of Curry’s Oakland flagship. It showcases her own culinary creations, like the comforting sweet potato bread pudding and the indulgent croissants stuffed with guava and cream cheese, alongside products from Black- and female-owned businesses.
  • In your room, take advantage of free perks like pressing and a minibar tailored to your tastes.
