Portrait Milano — Lungarno Collection

A style sanctuary from Ferragamo
VERIFIED LUXURY
Milan’s most beautiful spaces often lie unseen behind impressive gates like Portrait Milano — Lungarno Collection. The 18th-century entrance on Corso Venezia opens into an unexpected sanctuary tucked within the heart of the city’s glittering Golden Triangle, where this lavish property hides. Set within the former Seminario Arcivescovile, a 16th-century colonnaded seminary founded by St. Charles Borromeo, Portrait blends the city’s storied culture with Milan’s effortless chic style for a bold reimagining of hospitality.

The latest jewel in Ferragamo’s Lungarno Collection is yet another collaboration with esteemed designer Michele Bönan, who brings his signature glamour to this sprawling address. The 73-room retreat features Ferragamo’s signature artisanal furnishings (rattan headboards and leather details all inspired by vintage Ferragamo trunks) and is tempered by a subtle nod to kansō, the Japanese art of elegant simplicity.

But Portrait Milano is more than just rooms, it’s a curated destination. The hotel’s majestic columned courtyard acts as both piazza and parlor, ringed with boutiques and eateries that welcome hotel guests and city locals. This is where you sip espresso between fashion shows or duck in from a Milan drizzle, surrounded by architecture, atmosphere and understated glamour.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Piazza, the colonnaded courtyard, is Portrait's showpiece. The once cloistered seminary has been transformed into a stylish public square. Stuffed into its alcoves are two stunning boutiques: Antonia, a legendary Milanese couturier, and So-Le, a bespoke leather atelier from the newest Ferragamo heir, as well as Beefbar steakhouse and Rumore, a styled speakeasy.
  • It’s all about the details from the moment you walk into the lobby lounge, from the subtle scent of Tuscan leather to the custom patterned carpet underfoot. A striking art collection and a curated library of Milanese art and design books set the tone, while iconic photos of the city’s design legends hang alongside Salvatore Ferragamo’s patented designs.
  • Rooms have a Milanese mid-century elegance with a flair for drama in the cardinal red or forest green accents, and distinctive Ferragamo details like Florentine-crafted antler handles, suede vanity trunks and chrome stools that play off toffee-toned Carrara marble of the bathroom. Sleep is an art form with a pillow menu of seven options (yes, even bamboo for climate control). No tech confusion, either — just a brass switchboard by the bed and tea service in silver pots on embroidered linen.
  • Beneath the piazza, in what was once the canteen warehouse of Milan’s 16th-century archbishop’s seminary, lies the luxury hotel’s 7,500-square-foot Longevity Spa. The vaulted, granite-columned space has been transformed into a serene refuge with a heated indoor pool, tulipwood sauna and gray onyx hammam. Billed as the solution to jet lag, the spa mixes Old World bones with futuristic cryotherapy, biohacking and anti-aging protocols.
  • Breakfast at 10_11 (onsite garden restaurant) is pure indulgence with flaky pastries from local bakeries, organic eggs any way you like them and cappuccinos poured into crisp white porcelain. In warmer months, the vibe turns even dreamier under the colonnade in the courtyard.
