Shebara Resort

An otherworldly island retreat on the Red Sea
VERIFIED LUXURY
On a remote island off the west coast of Saudi Arabia, Shebara Resort feels like a vision of the future. Developed as part of the ambitious Red Sea destination, the luxury resort is instantly recognizable for its mirrored stainless-steel villas — sculptural ellipsoids that appear to hover between sea and sky while reflecting the surrounding lagoon. Conceived by Dubai-based Killa Design, the architecture is undeniably bold, yet remarkably harmonious against the island's white-sand beaches and crystalline waters.

The all-villa resort comprises 38 overwater and 35 beachfront retreats, each with a private pool and generous indoor-outdoor living space. In this slice of paradise, the Red Sea takes center stage, whether snorkeling around vibrant coral reefs, diving among abundant marine life, or simply watching shifting light dance across the water. Dining spans international flavors with a focus on seafood, while a spa, fitness center and curated activities round out the experience.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Behind the Red Sea hotel’s futuristic architecture lies an equally ambitious sustainability strategy, incorporating large-scale solar power, desalination, wastewater recycling and circular waste-management systems.
  • In keeping with local regulations, Shebara does not serve alcohol. Solera embraces alcohol-free mixology with house-made infusions, fresh botanicals and layered flavor profiles befitting the resort’s nature-inspired ethos.
  • The protected waters of the Al Wajh Lagoon offer some of the Red Sea's most rewarding marine experiences. Guests can snorkel or dive among thriving coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangroves and eagle rays before trying e-foiling, sailing or wakeboarding across the crystal-clear lagoon.
  • Whether you're lingering over Tuscan steaks and pasta at Ariamare, discovering the delicate balance of Japanese and Peruvian flavors at Iki.roe, or settling into Lunara for an unhurried breakfast or candlelit dinner, each restaurant offers a distinct personality.
  • Home to five treatment rooms, an outdoor vitality pool and extensive hydrothermal facilities, spa draws on the island's marine surroundings with signature rituals like the Pearl & Green Caviar Signature Hammam. The 75-minute experience pairs a traditional cleanse, steam, scrub and hydrating rhassoul clay body-mask wrap for a deeply restorative treatment powered by the ocean’s bounty.

The Look

  • Shebara’s defining feature is its collection of polished stainless-steel villas, each conceived as a reflective orb that mirrors the surrounding sea, sky and coastline. Scattered across the lagoon, they recall a string of pearls, paying homage to the Red Sea’s centuries-old pearling heritage.
  • The atmosphere looks and feels different from hour to hour, as the villas' mirrored surfaces capture the shifting blues of the lagoon, the warm glow of sunrise and sunset, and the stars after dark, creating architecture that feels continuously in tune with its surroundings.
  • Shebara embraces a low-rise design that preserves the island's natural profile. Smaller buildings have been carefully integrated into shoreline and over the lagoon, allowing the landscape to remain the focal point.
  • Stepping inside the villas, the mood shifts from dramatic to serene. Studio Paolo Ferrari softens the mirrored shells with pale stone, leather and oak, while warm neutrals and organic curves flow seamlessly from ceilings to walls to bespoke furnishings. After a day on the water, the villa invites a slower pace, whether soaking in the travertine tub or settling into the sunken lounge overlooking the Red Sea.
  • Designed by global architecture and design firm Rockwell Group, the resort’s shared spaces embrace the same fluid approach as the villas, eschewing straight lines in favor of organic forms. The spa, restaurants and separate adult and family pools are scattered across the island, lending the luxury hotel a calm, intimate feel.
