Borgo Vescine

Dolce vita with a Chianti twist
VERIFIED LUXURY
Expect timeless Tuscan charm at Borgo Vescine, a lovingly restored medieval hamlet perched above Radda in Chianti. The centuries-old peasant village has been off the radar since it was effectively depopulated in the 1950s only to be transformed into an inn by owner Lucia Paladin, who preserved its rustic soul while infusing it with refined comfort.

In the heart of Chianti Classico, the resort looks like a Tuscany postcard — endless panoramic vineyard views, cobblestone lanes, medieval farmhouses and a dedication to farm-to-table cuisine that celebrates the cornucopia of local produce and bounty. Its 28 rooms and suites blend handcrafted tradition (hand-embroidered linens, terracotta floors) and modern amenities (spa-jet showers, speedy Wi-Fi) with a refined touch.

The pristine property unfolds over more than 100 acres of vineyards and olive groves like a Tuscan dream. Here, you’ll ride horse through sun-drenched vines, forage for truffles beneath ancient oaks or linger over a hilltop picnic. Borgo Vescine is more than a backdrop, it’s a breathtaking experience.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Wining and dining is top priority. Morning breakfast is a limitless spread of freshly made pastries, breads, jams and other local artisan food products. You’ll find cooking classes and wine tastings in the estate’s medieval tower cellar. Two restaurants, La Terrazza del Borgo and Bistrot La Torre, serve a sustainable ethos and culinary creativity. Dishes like hand-rolled tagliolini nestled in a duck ragù with freshly shaved black truffle are paired with wines from the property’s own organic Chianti Classico and Brunello vineyards.
  • The pool is Borgo Vescine’s shining star. There is no better place to unwind than the hilltop pool with unparalleled views of a sweeping Chianti countryside.
  • All accommodations are beautifully styled, rustic spaces, so you can’t go wrong with any of them. But the standout is the 590-square-foot Superior Suite with Patio that has its own terrace and direct garden access.
  • Borgo Vescine is the spot for an all-natural digital detox. Set on vineyards and acres of cypress trees, the estate offers activities such as hiking, horseback riding, Vespa tours, picnics, olive picking and seasonal truffle hunting. Otherwise, you can just hang out and enjoy the wine.
  • Enjoy weekly dinners under the Tuscan sky. Borgo Vescine hosts two signature dinners each week. Cena in Piazza brings guests together in the hamlet’s historic square, mimicking a traditional Tuscan market, with food stalls and festive energy. Cena in Uliveta is a more intimate, chef-prepared affair set among the olive trees.

Things to Know

  • Chianti Classico is an iconic wine region spanning nearly 173,000 acres of rolling hills between Florence and Siena. The area is dotted with storybook towns like Radda, Gaiole, Greve and Castellina, along with the winding Strade del Vino (“Wine Road”) with medieval castles-turned-wineries and oak barrels of world-class sangiovese.
  • Borgo Vescine’s vineyards and olive groves are surrounded by centuries-old dry-stone terrace walls that are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • You can bring the taste of Borgo Vescine home with you. Those bold reds you sipped with tagliatelle at dinner were estate-produced and are available to pack in your suitcase. Add a bottle of Borgo's prosecco or its organic olive oil straight from the grove. And when you run low back at home, restock easily through the online shop.
