- Waldorf Astoria Spa Shanghai’s philosophy is that wellness is achieved by adapting your life to the five Chinese seasons (fall, winter, spring, summer and late summer).
- The holistic treatments listed on the spa menu typically incorporate traditional Chinese medicine, modern-day techniques and ultra-luxe products including skincare from Natura Bissé.
- In addition to the massages that the Shanghai spa always provides, there are seasonal offerings around Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and other holidays throughout the year.
- Give yourself a jumpstart with the dian tian healing massage, which uses jade and volcanic stones to help your body’s energy flow.
- Almost all of its treatments can be had side by side in the VIP spa suite, which accommodates two.
Things to Know
- While the hotel spa’s staff will do its best to get you a same-day appointment, its best to reserve your slot at least 24 hours ahead of time.
- Appointments can be made by email, online, over the phone or in person.
- We suggest arriving more than 40 minutes early to take advantage of the immaculate facilities and refreshments.
The Treatments
- Among the spa’s top massages is the 80-minute bamboo service, in which a warm stick of bamboo is used to rub away muscle tension, aches and pains.
- Those suffering from jetlag should book the Shirodhara and scalp massage. Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment in which warm liquids are poured over the forehead (or third eye).
- The 50-minute men’s recharge service is a deep-tissue massage aimed at loosening up muscles tense and sore from sports and stress.
The Facilities
- In the rooms, you will find petite leather couches with throw pillows, midcentury-style round wooden tables, and fresh flowers.
- Treatment rooms at this decadent sanctuary are basically mini spas within a spa. Each space comes with its own steam room and rain shower.
- The spacious VIP suite goes beyond with a Jacuzzi, couples steam room, fireplace and private relaxation lounge.
- All rooms have heated treatment beds, marble vanities, leather couches dotted with throw pillows, and fresh flowers for a pop of color.
